When Donna’s husband of nearly 58 years passed away, she was devastated. But she found comfort in knowing her Beatitudes Campus friends and neighbors were nearby to support and check in on her, just as she does for them.
“Without them, I’d have been alone once my kids returned to their own lives out of state,” she said. “When my husband had his first stroke, and we lived in a house, I felt very alone — not as I do here. We’re all here for one another, but also respect each other’s space.”
Donna’s story is one that other older adults can relate to — she’s found safe senior living and a network of support from friends and neighbors who genuinely care for one another. Residents can confidently enjoy their days, knowing resident safety is a priority at Beatitudes Campus. A blend of security measures and safety precautions for older adults provides peace of mind and comfort in our close-knit community.
When a neighbor suggested Donna sign up for Beatitudes Campus’ daily check-in system, she didn’t hesitate. Residents who opt to use the system must press a button as soon as they wake up every morning. The front desk will call to check in if they haven’t done so around noon. If there’s no response, security will do a wellness check on the resident. “This safety feature is reassuring for those of us living alone,” Donna said. “If I forget to push the button, they call to check on me, which is helpful with my unusual sleep schedule.”
With 24/7 gated entry, round-the-clock security, a visitor sign-in system, and in-residence safety pull cords and personal help buttons, Beatitudes Campus promotes senior living safety at every turn.
For residents Jerry and Penny, these features provide reassurance and confidence. “After 40 years in Moon Valley, where we needed an alarm system and security shutters, we now have a secure, welcoming community without the hassle of alarms and shutters,” they said. “Plus, we get to enjoy our view every day without obstruction.”
The couple values the peace of mind of being surrounded by supportive residents. “Moving here, we immediately felt connected to our neighbors, and it’s comforting to know they keep an eye out for us when we’re away.”
Penny and Jerry also know that if they ever need assistance, the campus security makes their rounds frequently and responds promptly. With street-facing cameras on the west and north sides of campus, they feel comfortable walking alone to evening events.
Well-lit walking paths, gardening areas and dog parks spread across Beatitudes Campus’ 27 acres offer spaces for residents to enjoy the outdoors and get to know one another, with the reassurance that help is never far away.
Situated along Glendale Avenue, Beatitudes Campus lies in the heart of 19NORTH. In this people-focused neighborhood, residents, businesses, schools and organizations come together to make North Phoenix safe, welcoming and walkable.
Driving this vision is the 19NORTH Community Alliance, a grassroots group of leaders — from city officials to local nonprofits — working together to create a neighborhood where people of all ages can thrive. This alliance serves the Montebello and Dunlap Avenues area, from 15th to 23rd Avenue, including Beatitudes Campus.
Donna recently took the light rail into the city with a friend. She hadn’t ridden it in years and was surprised at how much safer it felt than expected. “Many residents feel so safe and comfortable that they rarely leave Beatitudes Campus except for outings on our bus,” she said. “It’s easy to stay in this cocoon, but I think it’s good to step out of our comfort zones occasionally.”
The alliance helps make community life safer and more connected through the Public Safety Collaboration Program, which includes security patrols, a dispatch line, monthly updates, improvements to bus stops, and substance abuse and outreach programs.
Beatitudes Campus offers residents a unique blend of safety, inclusivity and quality of life both on and off campus.
